When I first got my embroidery machine, I had no idea what an in the hoop project or a snap tab was. This is a whole new amazing world of embroidery that I am now obsessed with. In the hoop projects start with only hooping tear away or wash away stabilizer, then usually consist of some applique like design. But when you are done, you tear your project out of the hoop and stabilizer and you have now created a new item, instead of just embroidering an item you already had.
We can go down a very deep hole of in the hoop projects, but today we will focus on snap tabs and key fobs. These are adorable projects that are done with vinyl and keychain hardware. Also, we are not using the kind of vinyl that you use to make sticker or shirts using your Silhouette or Circuit. For these types of projects, I am using something called embroidery vinyl. It is also called faux leather or marine vinyl. It is thicker than 651 or HTV vinyl you use for your cutting machine and has a canvas or felt backing.
